Dr John McCoombes
BMedSc, MBBS, FRANZCO
Dr McCoombes specialises in diseases and treatment of the macula, retina and vitreous, as well as cataract surgery and general adult ophthalmology.He has special interests in macular degeneration.
Dr McCoombes did his undergraduate training at the University of Queensland, followed by basic ophthalmology training on the Queensland training Programme and then undertook a further two years of training and study in the United Kingdom. He obtained vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina experience at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital as well as the Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
Dr McCoombes is a staff specialist (part-time) at the Mater Hospital, Brisbane and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
Dr McCoombes has published in both national and international journals of ophthalmology. He is actively engaged in Eye Registrar surgical training and medical student training at the University of Queensland
He is a keen golfer and other interests include running, music, cars and wine. Dr McCoombes is married with two children.
Dr McCoombes provides his specialist services at Vision Retinal Institute at River City and Mt Gravatt in Brisbane, and Southport, Gold Coast.
