Dr Ed Boets

MD, PhD, FEBOphth, FRANZCO

Dr Ed Boets specialises in cataract and strabismus (squint) surgery.

He provides comprehensive ophthalmic services for the Mackay and the Whitsunday region.

Dr Boets graduated medicine in 1990. After compulsory military service at the department of Ophthalmology at the Central Military Hospital in Utrecht he completed his ophthalmic training at the University Medical Centre Leiden in 1998. 

In 1998 he worked as a staff specialist at the University Medical Centre Maastricht (Netherlands). From 1999 to 2007 he had his own practice in Utrecht before moving to Australia. Dr Boets was chairman of the patient education committee of the Dutch College of Ophthalmology from 2003 until 2007.  He is also a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

During his training at the University Medical Centre Leiden (Netherlands) he obtained his PhD degree in 1995 with a thesis titled "Fluorophotometry of the anterior segment of the eye with special attention to contact lenses".
