Dr Steve Steyn

Dr Steve Steyn is a general ophthalmic surgeon, and specialises in cataract and glaucoma surgery. He is also a trained Optometrist and has a special interest in refractive corrective surgery. Dr Steyn’s primary service includes all aspects of ophthalmology, including diabetes, macular degeneration, and glaucoma, cataract and intra-ocular refractive surgery.
Dr Steyn initially began a career in Optometry, however after 2 years in the field, decided to further his studies and following graduation, began a career in Ophthalmology. After completing his specialist training in ophthalmology at the University of Stellenbosch under Professor David Meyer, he went into private practice in Port Shepstone, expanding into Margate. As well as providing a full ophthalmic service to his patients, Dr Steyn also established an out-reach clinic in Kokstad, and worked and operated in various hospitals. Dr Steyn keeps at the forefront with the latest developments and technology in ophthalmology by regularly attending national and international conferences.
Dr Steyn is a Fellow of the South African Ophthalmologic Society, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
In 2008 Dr Steyn and his family, relocated to Gladstone, where Dr Steyn was appointed as Gladstone’s first ever full-time Ophthalmologist. Dr Steyn now provides full ophthalmic services to the Gladstone region.
